History

In terms of history, Fatra is the first plastics processing company in the Czech Republic (former Czechoslovakia). It was established by Bata concern on direct impulse of the Ministry of Defence in 1935. Masks and protective cloths, rubber toys, and technical rubber represented its first products. Progressive orientation towards plastics processing started in 1940. Fatra transferred the rubber production step by step into other plants, while it controlled some of them at certain time (e.g. Optimit Odry, Gumárny Zubří), or it helped build up others (e.g. Gumotex Břeclav). Fatra has been passing its experience with plastics processing to other factories (e.g. Technoplast Chropyně, Plastika Nitra), having an exceptional credit of branch development in the Czech Republic.

In the course of years, people in Fatra transformed its historically given primacy into a definite advantage and strenghtened it into a position of a significant plastics processor in terms of knowledge of materials and technologies used, and the quality and volume of the overall production. It currently also maintains its status of the only producer of e.g. pressed floor coverings, conveyor belts of PVC, waterproofing sheeting systems, BO PET films and laminates, rigid floor coverings, breathable films, textile climamembranes, etc. among domestic manufacturers. Fatra is also a co-organizer of the only conference on plastics in the Czech Republic. It is called PLASTKO and held every two years.

The company subordinated its integrated Quality Assurance System to ISO 9001 standards in 1994; and in 2000, it ranked among the first firms, which environmental care complies with ISO 14 001 standards. Both these certificates have been granted to Fatra by Lloyd´s Register Quality Assurance company.

Part of the plant is formed by premises in Chropyně. The factory was founded in 1949 and known as Technoplast till 2002. The plant underwent an investment construction in the sixties of the last century. Modern technologies at that time provided Technoplast with an exceptional position among domestic producers and the plant ranks among significant exporters. Its best-known products in the last decade include artificial leathers, poromeric leathers, pressed coverings, and BO PET foils.

Fatra is a special plastics processor in the Czech Republic, known with its products almost all over Europe and other countries in the world. It takes a significant place in the Zlín region in terms of employment opportunities; it also participates in supporting education, culture and sports, and humanitarian activities.
